Edgewood's Hackney Inks With Express Women's Basketball

Edgewood, OH---Maura Hackney, a 6'1" forward/center, became the second member of the 2013-14 Express women's basketball freshmen class after signing on the dotted line during a ceremony at Edgewood High School this afternoon.

During her time at Edgewood, Hackney earned Second Team All-Southwest Ohio Conference, First Team All-Fort Ancient Valley Conference (FAVC), Second Team All-FAVC, Honorable Mention All-FAVC, First Team All-District and Honorable Mention All-District honors.

Additionally, she earned team awards as Most Valuable Offensive Player and Most Valuable Player. Academically, she was a four-time Student Athletic - Academic Honors selection.

As a senior, Hackney broke the program's record for most blocks in a single game and most blocks in a single season.

Hackney, who will likely also see time at guard while at Owens, is the daughter of Timothy and Chris Hackney. Her brother, Sam, is currently a freshman on the Express baseball team, while she also has another brother, Ben, as well as a sister, Lily.

Hackney plans on majoring in exercise science at Owens. She was coached by Andrea Swartz at Edgewood.

The Express women's basketball team finished 28-8 last season and advanced to the NJCAA D-II National Tournament, where they finished seventh in the nation. During the season, they captured the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) championship, as well as the Region XII District I championship. Their 28 wins marked the second most in a single season.

Notes

In addition to Maura and Sam, there are also two more Edgewood graduates at Owens as Justin Elder and Kody McCall are both members of the Express baseball team.

Maura joins 5'11" forward/center Hannah Griffin, of Edgerton High School, as members of next year's Express women's basketball freshmen class.
