Toledo, OH--- The Owens Community College Board of Trustees took time out of their scheduled monthly meeting to give special commendation to the Owens Express Women's Volleyball Team for their successful 2012 campaign.
The Express took fourth-place at the 2012 NJCAA Division II National Women's Volleyball Tournament, finishing the season with an overall record of 37-11. Owens was also 12-0 for the second-straight year in OCCAC Conference play.
Board President Diana (Dee) Talmage and Owens Community College President Dr. Mike Bower presented Head Coach Sonny Lewis and his team with a special plaque and read the following resolution:
WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees supports and honors the 140 Owens Community College student athletes, as the College's athletic program provides lessons in leadership, teamwork and the pursuit of excellence; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees recognizes the Express volleyball team for their talent, dedication and winning record (37-11), including capturing its 13th conference title in the Ohio Community College Athletic Association and for placing fourth in the NJCAA National Championship Tournament and ranking 17th in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II; and
NOW, THEREFORE, be it hereby resolved that the Owens Community College Board of Trustees proudly commends the student athletes and coaches of the Owens Express Volleyball Team for their successful season, as represented by their wins and their College spirit;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it is now appropriate for the coaches, staff and student-athletes to stand and be recognized.
Head Coach Lewis introduced his staff and team and gave the Board of Trustees additional highlights for each student-athlete.
"We are incredibly honored to be recognized by the Owens Community College Board of Trustees," said Owens Athletic Director Rudy Yovich. "Our student-athletes would not be able to realize their full potential, both in competition and in the classroom, if not for the support of our Board and our outstanding administration. For that, we are truly grateful."
