Prior to Owens: Hafner was a First Team All-Three Rivers Athletic Conference selection at Central Catholic, where he played for coach Jeff Mielcarek.

Personal: Derek is the son of Darrel and Shelley Hafner. He has one brother, Trevor, and one sister, Megan.
