Long Headlines Owens Men's Golf Postseason Awards

Toledo, Ohio---Harrison Long (Wilnecote/Tamworth, U.K.) was a prominent figure among this year's postseason awards for the Owens Community College men's golf team.

Long, who helped lead Owens to a ninth place finish at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Tournament, earned First Team All-Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC), First Team All-Region XII, Region XII Player of the Year, PING First Team All-East Region, PING Second Team All-American and NJCAA Division II Honorable Mention All-American accolades.

Long is the first two-time NJCAA All-American in Owens men's golf history after earning Second Team All-American honors as a freshman. He finished his career with nine medalist finishes, and he averaged 73.9 strokes over 51 career rounds. Moreover, he shot below 70 six times in his career.

In conference play, Philippe Weppernig (Luzern, Switzerland) and Dominic DiGiacomo (Ocean City/Ocean City, N.J.) also earned First Team All-OCCAC accolades.

Weppernig, a sophomore, averaged 76.2 strokes per 18 holes in conference play. It's his second consecutive First Team All-OCCAC honor. Over 51 career rounds, he averaged 75.3 strokes per 18 holes.

DiGiacomo, meanwhile, averaged 78.2 strokes per 18 holes in conference play as a freshman. Over 22 total rounds, he averaged 76.1 strokes. In addition to his conference honor, he also earned First Team All-Region XII honors after finishing ninth in the Region XII tournament.

Long and DiGiacomo were also each named to the All-Region XII tournament team, while Weppernig earned PING All-East Region honors for the second straight season.

Other members of this year's Owens golf team included Wyatt Spalding (Summerfield/Petersburg, Mich.), Dru Hein (Jasper/Jasper, Ind.) and Christian Bienaime (Lake Brantley/Altamonte Springs, Fla.)

Spalding averaged 78.7 strokes over 22 rounds as a freshman, Hein averaged 79.8 strokes over 13 rounds as a sophomore, and Bienaime averaged 79.5 strokes per 18 holes over 19 rounds as a freshman.

Notes

The 2015 Owens men's golf team participated in 15 tournaments, capturing first place in eight of them and second place in six. The only one they didn't place first or second in was the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. Along the way, the team finished second in the OCCAC and second in the Region XII tournament. Via the team's runner-up finish in the Region XII tournament, Owens advanced to the national tournament for the third consecutive season.

Owens has finished in the top 10 at the national tournament each of the past three seasons.
