CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- Maddie White, a freshman outside hitter for the No. 2 Owens Community College volleyball team, has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III offensive player of the week. The honor comes one day after she won Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) player of the week recognition for the second time this year (8/30).

She becomes the first volleyball player from Owens to win the award since both Tyriana Settles and Rebecca Brown took home the award during the 2019 season.

"Maddie is a team leader on and off the court," Owens head coach Sonny Lewis said. "She works hard to make herself and the team better, and she's a pleasure to coach."

White (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf HS) racked up 46 kills, 39 digs, five blocks, four assists and four aces in 14 sets over four matches last week, which included three wins over conference foes as she helped propel the Express (14-5, 5-1) into sole possession of second place.

In a Friday night win over Edison, White posted 15 kills and 13 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. She also recorded double-digit digs against Muskegon as the team went 3-1 on the week. In total, she had three matches with 10+ kills and two with 10+ digs.

White currently ranks among the national leaders in total kills (5th, 187), kills per set (8th, 3.46), block assists (T-10th, 22), total blocks (11th, 31) and total digs (16th, 154),

Wednesday's match at Edison State has been postponed. The Express are scheduled to be back in action Oct. 2 in Grand Rapids, Mich.
