Stephen Perry, who was named the head coach of the Owens Women's Basketball Team on June 11, 2018, enters his 19th overall season on the coaching staff.
Since taking over as Head Coach in 2018, the Express have won 3 OCCAC Championships (2019, 2023, and 2026), 5 Region XII Championships (2019, 2022, 2023, 2025, and 2026), 3 Great Lakes District Championships (2019, 2022, and 2023), and 2 Mid-Atlantic District Championships (2025 and 2026).
The Express were National Runners-Up in 2019, National Champions in 2022, and were in the Final Four in 2023! The 5th National Tournament Appearance in 7 years.
Perry was named OCCAC Coach of the Year twice, Region XII Coach of the Year 3 times, Great Lakes District Coach of the Year 3 times, Mid-Atlantic District Coach of the Year twice, and was named NJCAA National Coach of the Year in 2022.
Perry’s record in the National Tournament is 10-6.
In Perry’s tenure since 2018, the Express have produced the following NJCAA All-Americans: 1st Team – Hayley St. John, Cierra Harris, and Taylor Works; 2nd Team – Dasia Hardison and Moreina Moore; 3rd Team - Malorie Schroeder and Shyah Wheeler; and Honorable Mention – Shyah Wheeler.
Cierra Harris was named National Player of the Year in 2022.
Perry joined Owens with nine years of basketball coaching experience, with the final eight of those at St. Ursula Academy in Toledo, OH. During his time there, his teams amassed an overall record of 127-29, won two City League championships, and finished City League runner-up three times.
Perry is a graduate of Toledo St. John's Jesuit High School and went on to play intercollegiate basketball at Tiffin University. He is an Account Manager for FedEx Freight. He resides in Toledo with his wife and has two daughters.
